What’s the Monticello Self-Guided Art tour?
Monticello now has quite an impressive collection of public art, thanks to City Leaders, the work of MontiArts, funding sources like the Central MN Arts Board and MN State Arts Board, and donations from civic groups like the Monticello Lions and even private donors like the Ellison Foundation.
The Arts tour bundles our collection into a navigable route complete with a map and interpretive signage along the way, so people can not only see and enjoy the art, but make a fun activity of finding it all, and learning a little about the artists who created it all in the process.
During Monticello’s “Let’s Chalk Fest” in Sept of ’23, we’re debuting a mini version of the trail along Walnut for people to try out. We plan to expand the trail to include art sites in other areas around downtown in 2024, and are seeking sponsorships to help cover the costs of enhanced signage. The full map and accompanying information will be available on our website when the project is more fully developed.
If you’d like to find out more or to contribute to this project , or want to give feedback if you have had the opportunity to test drive it during the chalk fest, please reach out to Sue via email at sue.montiarts@gmail.com
