Welcome To Winter?

Hello Everyone,

This must be what winter in Kansas or somewhere south of here is usually like. Well, snow or no snow, we got a bunch of fun activities for you this month and right after the holidays too. It’s a busy time of year, which perhaps makes it even more important to take a little time for yourself. Come to MontiArts and have a hot beverage and meet some new creative friends.

Another Fun $5 Art Making Social!

Come to MontiArts (213 W Broadway) on Thursday 12/14 any time from 6 to 9p.m. to make these cool 3D snowflakes out of paper bags in a casual social setting. We’ll do an instructional demo right after 6, but if you come late, no worries. These are easy and don’t take too long to make. We’ll catch you up.

Everyone can make and take 2 of these home. There are 6 designs to choose from, 2 sizes of bags, and both white and brown to choose from. Light kits are also available to purchase if you want your snowflake to glow. (Hey— you’d be all set for GLOW FEST in Feb. too!)

A $5 donation at the door will help us cover our materials costs. Come hang out!

Join Us For Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night- A Musical Community Stroll

Composer Phile Kline gave the world a marvelous gift when he created UnSilent Night, his ethereal instrumental long-playing piece in 4 separate parts. It is intended to be played simultaneously on people’s individual devices, as they stroll through their community in a group. The experience winds-up being a real time in-person surround sound mobile concert. We’ve done this for several years now, and people describe the experience as magical. Often people wear or bring glowing items or accessories and we encourage this!

Don’t miss this singular once a year experience. A great chance to meet your neighbors.

There Is Still Time To Sign Up For The Mosaic Class Sat 12/16

This is filling up fast. We are planning some really fun follow-up mosaic classes after the holidays, and even more advanced workshops next spring and summer, so if you’re interested in this art form, this is a great chance to get on board early and learn the basics.

Open Mic This Saturday 12/9

Our open mic has become the most welcoming listening and collaborating space in the area. Join us to perform or listen at 7pm in our MA Studios building (213 W Broadway). Contact Ben Lundquist at ben.montiarts@gmail.com with questions.

New Art Show Opening 1/12!

Ali Yager- Explorations Through Color

Monticello is home to a very talented, exciting and experimental artist— Ali Yager. Ali is a recent graduate of the Master’s program in Visual Arts at MCAD where she focused on installation art. Ali’s work is very interesting in that her entire approach is pure creativity. This show will be a rare opportunity to see this type of work, which is more installation based, right here in Monticello.

Ali just sees things differently, and her works helps us consider what we’re seeing in new ways. For example, the piece pictured above, is made entirely of window screens she colored individually and assembled in a colasal wall of colors that seems to morph before your eyes.

Come meet Ali, and see her amazing work in-person on Fri 1/12 from 7 to 9 at MontiArts (213 W Broadway). The show will be open during our regular Open Studio Times; Tues mornings from 10 to noon, and Wed evenings from 6 to 9, and whenever we’re having classes or events. Check the calendar on our website.
