July- Hot Stuff!

Hey everyone.

I hope everyone is soaking up summer, This first week of July looks absolutely gorgeous. We have a lot of fun stuff going on all over town this month. We always love it when friendly faces find us at event and say hi. There are also a couple things coming up in our spaces the public is invited to, so we hope to see some of you soon.

Stay Curious Creative and COOL this month. - Sue Seeger

Farewell, Stan

We will be so sorry to see a good friend and one of our most popular MontiArts artists Stan Thorud head south this month, because this time, it’s a permanent move.

He’s setting up a year-round home down in AZ, and while we’ll miss him, we certainly wish him all the best. We’re hoping you can join us in a celebration of his work as a painting instructor and send him off with a bang. We’re having a show featuring the work of all his students, past and present, which will open Fri 7/21 with a reception from 7 to 9 pm. Come thank Stan for all he’s done for the arts and us in Monticello, and have some snacks and maybe reconnect with some art friends.

We’ll be reaching out personally to all his students, but here are some details for participating artists. We’d like your work by Wed 7/19. You can drop off at Open Studio which is every Tues from 10 to noon, or Wed nights from 6 to 9. The show will run through August. Everyone who has taken Stan’s class, beginner or experienced painter, has been able to come away with an amazing piece. It will be fun to see them all in one place.

$100 Or Less Show

Ok Artists. This is going to be pretty cool! It will take place at our main space- 213 W Broadway Sept 9th & 10th. We want to let you know about it now so you can plan ahead.

This show is designed to supplement the activity downtown during Chalkfest this year, which will be happening on the West side of the Community Center Aug 9th & 10th. During this weekend, we’ll be at the fest directing people to take part in a self guided arts tour down Walnut which will lead them right to MontiArts. We’ll be there all weekend (exact hours tbd.)

This is a great chance to show and sell your art to the many visitors that will be coming to take in the Chalkfest and other art in our downtown this weekend. If you’d like to participate, send jpegs of up to 5 entries to Sue at sue.montiarts@gmail.come with a title of “$100 show.” We will try to accommodate everyone, but space is limited. 5 piece limit, however- you may rotate in replacement pieces if you sell things off the wall.

Now the complicated part: You need to manage your own sales, or be ok with us accepting $ or checks on your behalf and just keeping a handwritten list. Your price needs to include sales tax which you will be responsible for reporting. If you really want to sell, you should plan to be around as much as possible. We will have staff on hand, but more to give people info about MontiArts and to help direct people than to be salespeople for your art. People love to meet artists and have some interaction when they’re picking up a new treasure, so please plan to be available for at least part of the weekend if you really want to be part of this. Teamwork makes the dreamwork, folks! (Yes, I really just typed that.)

Parks Arts & Rec Needs Assessment

If you haven’t already, please take a moment and follow the QR code above (point your phone’s camera at it) to a short survey about our Parks Arts and Rec Department. They will be using the data collected to help shape planning for spaces and programming in the future. There are questions on it regarding whether the arts are an important part of this, or not. Needless to say if the arts/MontiArts is important to you, it’s important to weigh in on this so the data accurately reflects our community’s priorities.

Here is another link in case the QR code isn’t right for you or you’d prefer to complete on a computer.
