Introducing The Monticello Self-guided Art Tour!

You can see a whole page about this on our website now which you can get to here or from a banner right on our home page. This is something we’ve been developing for a few years now, placing public art intentionally around the downtown to create a pedestrian friendly arts walking tour of Monticello.

We’ll be launching a trial version of this at the Let’s Chalk Fest which is a bit smaller than the final full tour, expected to encompass even more art sites in and near downtown.

Pick up a tour brochure at Let’s Chalk with the map inside, and let us know what you think!

Chalk Fest

Last year, we held our first-ever chalk fest called Monticello, Let’s chalk! It was an amazing fun-filled weekend of local amateur and professional chalk artists from all over the country filling the streets downtown with colorful chalk masterpieces, some even in 3D!

This year we’re again hosting Internationally known chalk artist Shawn McCann and his troupe of professionals from all over the world. Local artists are once again invited to participate too.

The fest takes place at the Monticello Community Center this year, due to extensive downtown road work & detours on local streets. All the fun will be on the west side of the center, where the Riverfest Street Dance takes place in July.

This is coming up this weekend guys. Do not miss it!

Community Theater Group Starting, Newbies Invited!

Come join the fun as the Monticello Community Theater group starts meeting at MontiArts the second Mon of every month to go over scripts, discuss ideas, and generally see what kind of theatrical stuff they can get up to. For now this is a group for adults and older teens.

Come help shape where this goes. Newcomers very welcome.

The next meeting is Mon 9/11 at 6 pm!

Welcome New Residency Space Artist Ali Yager!

We’re so excited to welcome Ali to the fold again. She has been part of the MontiArts family for a long time. She actually had a residency space before in the old What The Art Building (RIP). Many of you know her work already. She is the artist responsible for the Cow Tag Project on Walnut which she created with some help from community artist-volunteers. (This installation is part of the Self-guided Art Tour mentioned above.)

Ali is a multi-disciplinary artist full of creative energy. She’s currently also an adjunct arts professor at St. Cloud State and a fresh MCAD Grad. We’re excited to see more of her and her work around MontiArts in the next few months.
